  • NAHBS Update 1 via: Urban Velo

  • Our friend Harris from The Old Spokes Home is currently down in VA while we’re hopefully getting pounded with some more snow today. He’s going to the NAHBS and will be taking some photos that we’ll share as soon as we get out hands on them. Here’s a little message from Harris via the OSH Blog:

While Vermont is getting hammered with some of the nastiest weather imaginable I have ventured south of the Jason-Dixon! I did not find an escape from nasty weather unfortunately but what i will find in the next couple of days is largest trade show for custom built bicycles. Website is here Thats right, The North American Handmade Bike Show! I am fortunate to have family and friends near Richmond Va. to visit and allow me the opportunity to experience this event. Stay tuned for for a ton of pictures and news coming tomorrow evening and Saturday!

I am particularly excited to see what Vermonter Chris Igleheart brings to the show. He made a name for himself at Fat City Cycles and has since then moved to the Green Mountains to keep building high quality steel frames and forks. Also I am very excited to see the work of Shin-Ichi Konno who is carrying on his family legacy of high quality frames under the name Cherubim cycles. If you are interested you can bug a former Old Spokes Home employee to show you his 1970s Cherubim Cyclone built by master frame builder Yoshi Konno (later of 3Rensho). As always Independent Fabrications will be there, already with multiple NAHBS awards including best track bike in 2007 and best carbon bike last year. I am very excited to see what they have to show. As many of you are aware The Old Spokes Home deals with Independent Fabrication and we would be very happy to set you up on one of their beautiful completely custom rigs. Drop on by the shop for more details on getting set up with an IF.

Stay tuned for tons of pictures, videos, and updates tomorrow and saturday. Catch up with us on Facebook too if you cant wait for an entire blog post to come up in the evening!

Ride safely in that nasty weather

Cheers from the capital of the old confederacy!

  • Mini Bike Winter | 2010 from Richie Thomassen on Vimeo.

Saw this on Prolly’s blog and had to share.

A yearly 2 day bicycling event full of F.U.N., activities, partying, and biking brought to you by Zoobomb in Portland. Mini Bike Winter is the staple of crazy bicycling entertainment which keeps everyone warm with laughter and…well, beer. It’s an open invite event and free to all.

  • I was floating around on the Icarus site earlier and came across this beautiful build. Check out the link for more photos of this and several other beautiful bicycles built by Icarus. Seeing these awesome custom bikes really makes me wish I was heading to NAHBS, which unfortunately I’m not, but keep updated for photos from the show.
