Upon hearing the BHS trails are starting to dry up, I woke up this morning with the itch to clean my mountain bike and get it ready for the season. Hadn’t really shot/shared photos of it so I figured I’d let you in on what I’ve been riding for a while now: a BMC Team Elite 01 (2005).
I got a nice deal on the frame back in 2005 and have had the wheels, Thomson bits, bars, fork and brakes since then! Up until last year I was running an XTR triple with an XT derailleur and have since switched to a more simple and economical 1×9 setup. I plan on grabbing an E*Thirteen XCX at some point but haven’t had many issues dropping the chain, even in some of the most technical areas/descents. The carbon wishbone-style seat stays and seat tube along with the cross-skeleton design make for an extremely comfortable ride while not sacrificing any efficiency.
If I had to replace it, I’d probably look towards custom-steel but I don’t think that’s happening any time soon; the ride and fit is spot-on. See some more details below and here’s to a happy season on the trails.
