Firefly: MonsterCross

Firefly Bicycles Monster Cross 90's NOS MTB

Wow! This is right up my alley – I never know what to expect from Firefly Bicycles! This ultra-fat tire’d bike elegantly mixes componentry of current and previous eras while sporting massive Hookworm tires, dirt drops and thumbies. This is the perfect platform for some of the 90’s finer bicycle components and it’s great to see the folks at Firefly continuing to push the boundaries…see some more of that below.

Hi, If this Firefly Monstercross had high rise handlebars and a Brooks B67 saddle it would be my perfect bike. I have a Mongoose Thunderball DH bike that I didn’t ride much, prefering others on most rides, so on went the Brooks and on went the ape hanger handlebars and wow, with the upright riding position, and smooth balloony tires, it instantly became my favorite to ride. But I wondered why everyone doesn’t ride bikes that have a more upright riding posi. So I googled upright cycling and the first thing on top of the page was from an ergonomics expert that talks about how most bicycles in western societies are mostly racers or mountain bikes that are OK for fit riders or speedsters cutting wind resistance, but for unfit sloths just out for a slow ride down the street, this leaning forward is bad for your back, bad for your wrists etc but most bike shop owners usually come from a racing background, and are recommending bikes like they have used themselves. But I imagine the Monstercross with the handlebars and sprung leather saddle would be at another level again. PS 1st time I’ve come across the site, definitely a favorite already. cheers!

    • Yeah that’d be a killer setup! I also came from a racing background but over the last 5 years or so have broadened my horizons, appreciating all types of bicycles. Thanks for checking it out Bob, glad you like the site!
