  • Viner Pista Track Bike

    viner track bike-2

Andrey from Russia is at it again. This time he’s hitting us with a beautiful Viner Pista track bike that he’s just finished for his wife. I love the way this came out and don’t think I’d do a thing differently; I’m especially feeling the Dostoevsky backdrop! Some background on the build from Andrey:

VINER was founded in 1947 in Pistoia, a small town approx 30 miles northwest from Florence, by Mr. Viviano Nerozzi. The brand name is just a contraction of his first and second name VI-NER.

Gipiemme was founded in Milan in 1964 as a high quality machine shop. Their name is the initials ‘GPM’ pronounced as a word. It has been said that GPM stands for “Gran Premio della Montagna”, the high points on mountain stages of the Giro d’Italia.

3T was originally called Tecnologia del Tubo Torinese (Turin Tube Technology), taking its name from the city of Turin, where it was founded in 1961 by Mario Dedioniggi.

If you missed Andrey’s last project, be sure to check out the Colnago Super Pista he sent over last time.

  • Baum Extensa by Above Category

    baum extensa

If you’re familiar with Above Category then you’re well aware of the level of builds that they’re pumping out. This Baum Extensa is no exception either. This Baum Extensa was built as a daily rider for the streets and a weekend ripper for the trails, and as you can see it’s well-equipped to rip on both fronts. The grade 9 ti tubeset along with the tapered headtube allow for a nice mix of comfort and responsiveness; a unity often hard to pin down when it comes to mountain bikes.

I’ve always wanted to give a ti mtb a go, but my scandium / carbon rig has been keeping me happy for years. Get a better look at this bike below and be sure to check out the rest of what Above Category has been up to on their site.

  • Boombotix: Bicycle Messenger Emergency Fund

Listen up, ya’ll. If you’ve been searching for a portable speaker that’s not only Bluetooth compatible but also loud as hell, the Boombotix Rex speaker is waiting for you. If you get your pre-order in over on Indigogo, the good folks at Boombotix will donate 20% of their pre-sale revenue to the Bicycle Messenger Emergency Fund – that’s quite the deal if you ask me.

  • SF is Rad!

Oh man, San Francisco has been amazing so far. Despite the rain throughout the past two days, we’ve really been getting after it; riding, skating, eating burritos and exploring the city. Monday morning we hit our first skate park out in Alameda by 10 am, followed by a trip to “Hood Games” in Oakland, then a quick stop by Bicycle Fabrications, and finally ended up at Pacifica Skate Park. So after skating four very different parks we decided it was time for a little road ride to finish off the day. It also started raining, so we embraced rule #9 (screw rules) and headed out to seize the carp.

Riding over the Golden Gate Bridge was pretty surreal, especially with all the fog and rain. When we arrived in Marin we did a few climbs and a few ultra scary descents. After a couple hours we were all feeling pretty accomplished, so some Pakistani food and beers were in order. All in all I’d say I had an amazing first day out in SF. I made some new friends, learned back tails in tranny, got muddy and was all smiles. What more could you ask for?

Today we woke up around 7 for a ride leaving out of the Mash store, but not before stopping for coffee at Fourbarrel (I’ve had way too much coffee today). It had been raining since we woke up so I was well-prepared for the soak that was upon us. We rode with some of the Mash bros for a minute and then met up with Walton to cruise south and hit San Bruno. I was feeling pretty cooked by the time we got up San Bruno, especially since I’d only eaten a croissant. Oh well, I’m on vacation to get pitted so cheers to that. Check out some more photos from my trip so far below.

  • My Old Neighborhood…

Yup, my old neighborhood was once home to a bicycle shop. I love old photos like this and seeing how much things can change over time.

  • Happy Go Skateboarding Day

    matt eaton

If you know me, you know I’m just as heavy on the skateboards as I am with the bicycles. Since June 21st is “Go Skateboarding Day” I figured a skate photo of a longtime buddy would be more than appropriate. Here’s Matt Eaton showing off his ups in Jersey City.
