  • SRAM Omnium & Factory Five Lattice Chainring aka Omnilattice

When you’re in the market for a new chainring, it’s no doubt that there are number of worthy contenders: Sugino; 44rn; TA; Blackspire; FSA; you get the idea. Being out here in Shanghai, I’m really fond of the Factory Five Lattice Chainring. The lattice ring is designed and produced by the friends over at Factory Five, a Shanghai-based bike shop specializing in custom track bikes and components.

Anyway, a couple months ago I replaced my entire drivetrain. I decided to throw on my second lattice ring and swap out my crankset for the SRAM Omniums. I also tossed on a gold Izumi chain for good measure. A few months of daily commuting and general riding later, I’m happy to report that all is well! The Omniums were noticeably (as expected) stiffer and the lattice chainring felt just as nice as my first one.

If you want to see a bunch of other track bikes sporting the Omnilattice setup, head on over to Instagram and browse the #omnilattice tag.

  • Riding The Long White Cloud – Full Documentary

If you couldn’t tell, I love skateboarding; I also love bicycles. For over two decades I’ve been an obsessive skateboarder and bicycle fanatic. Yeah, it sounds kind of cheesy when you put it that way, but if there’s anything I’ve come to learn in the last 20+ years, it’s that there’s nothing quite like combining two great things and doing them both at the same damn time.

Sometimes great things aren’t really mean’t to go together; red wine and sour candy, Mentos and diet cola, a hot shower in a tropical climate, road bikes and disc brakes (LOL) – you know what I mean? But when you take a bike tour in a place like New Zealand and combine it with some skateboarding, you’ve got yourself a surefire guaranteed fun-as-hell saga ahead you. “Riding The Long White Cloud” is a visualization of countless dreams I’ve woken up from, except that it actually happened.

Check out this documentary by Alex Craig, featuring some of my favorites: Rick McCrank, Silas Baxter Neal, Cairo Foster, John Rattray, Keegan Sauder, Chris Haslam and Kenny Anderson.

So kick it back, grab yourself a choice beverage and start planning a journey of your own.

  • A Fat Bike Freeride Film: 2 Fat 2 Furious

I thought those photos from the Budnitz FTB fat bike shoot were awesome, but then I saw this and had to pass it along. How many of you guys out there with fat bikes have fantasized about this exact scenario? Videos like this make it impossible not to miss my Neck Romancer and the heavy snow we’re known to get back in Vermont.

Enjoy 2 Fat 2 Furious – A Fat Bike Freeride Film featuring Geoff Gulevich, Wade Simmons, and Noah Brousseau for Rocky Mountain Bicycles.
