  • Monster Mash IV – Burlington, Vermont

    monster mash 4

    poster by Kyle Sauter

A couple of my best buds and co-conspirators back in Vermont are putting on the 4th (nearly) annual Monster Mash race. Being semi-homesick and nostalgic towards Burlington, my home of seven years, seeing the invite to the race this morning has already made my day. Even though I won’t be able to make it as I’m still in Shanghai, I’ll definitely be there in spirit and hope to follow along via Snapchat/Instagram. Anyway, enough about how I miss these guys and good ‘ole VT…here are the vitals:

All hallows gather on the eve of the eve. After a year on the lam MONSTER MASH is back! And back with a VENGEANCE.

Meet: 30 Bright St. in the shadows of the loading docks
    Registration: 6pm – 7pm
    Race: 7:15pm
Finish and after party @ Artsriot
    $5 or $20
    (Wear a costume)

    RSVP on Facebook

If you’ve ridden this race in the past you may be familiar with the AlleyCat format we have adhered to. This year we promise you some of the same with a few twists lurking in the shadows. Monster Mash IV will be more about the trick and the treat. Don’t make any assumptions; you won’t know what’s coming around the corner.

Registration will begin at 6pm with a mass start just after 7pm. Bring $5 to race or $13 if you want a t-shirt and poster. We’re not gonna turn anyone away, but the entry fee will help cover costs of the race, treats and prizes for all. Oh, and there will be an after party at Artsriot with prizes awarded for all your favorite categories.

Lets be real, wear an awesome costume. It’s going to be dark and scary, so bring a light, front and rear if you got ’em. A lock is not necessary during the race unless you’re worried about leaving your bike un attended for a short period of time, however you may want to have one at the end of the race. We will have a car at the start, and can shuttle your lock and other nicknacks to the end for you.

If you’ve come out in the past, you know you’re in for a good time. Check out some photos and whatnot from past years here: Monster Mash Archives

  • DONTDO – Evan Murphy & Stanridge Speed Bicycles Part 1

This is rad. Evan Murphy is fast. Stanridge Speed Bicycles are the truth.

DONTDO met up with Evan Murphy in Red Hook to pick his mind on riding in Brooklyn, racing track bikes on the street and riding in the Red Hook Crit. This video is not one to miss!

  • Two C’s. One Cause. Chrome & Cinelli Announce Fixed Crit Racing Team

This is rad! Two of my favorite brands have come together and recruited a cream of the crop fixed crit racing team. See way more over at Team Cinelli Chrome.

Track bike, fixed-gear, brakeless. No freewheel, no stops. Creative and competitive. This is Team Cinelli Chrome. Different from others living cyclism. No pro-director, masseurs or official mechanics. An independent, semi-organized posse, perfectly self-sufficient, total autonomy travelers. It takes shape to race six international Fixed Gear Criteriums, and blends into the urban fabric after the races. A handful of characters borrowed from the city: bike messengers, track champions, and former Pro Tour mechanics.

Fixed Gear Criteriums are not a fad. They’re a direct outcome of the progression of the fixed-gear movement. This phenomenon was arguably born in San Francisco among the bike messengers and is now well established all around the world as a way of commuting and communicating. A way of being: free, creative, independent.
Cinelli and Chrome have contributed to the dawn of this world. Before it was fashionable. Against any rational reason or strategic marketing idea. People thought we were fools. Today they chase. Joined by common values and mutual respect for making great products, Cinelli and Chrome are proud to support Team Cinelli Chrome.

  • Stanridge Cycles For Red Hook Crit

Ohio based Stanridge Cycles is excited to announce the arrival of Katie Arnold to the team as it heads into it’s 3rd season competing in the Red Hook Crit Series. Arnold will join previous Red Hook winner and Cat 1/Pro, Evan Murphy at the start line in NYC this weekend.

This years Red Hook Crit program began in October of last year while in Shoreditch, London visiting Death Spray CustomBen Eine‘s work on Mother London caught the eye of Stanridge Cycles Owner Adam Eldridge. After returning to the states Ben was contacted and it was on. Ben hand painted both frames for the event.

This year Enve Composites, Paul Components and Vittoria Tires have joined as new team sponsors while Endo Custom remains as the jersey maker. Riders will use a variation of the iconic Stanridge HSP MkII (pictured) during the series to showcase a team that competes at the highest level of fixed crit racing.

“I enjoy creating bikes for this series. Having these frames used under race conditions means much more to me than hanging them on display at a bike show. They’ll get beat up, scratched and used which is perfectly fine with me”.  – Adam Eldridge, Owner of Stanridge Cycles.

HUGE thanks to Liam for putting this event on every year! It’s been such a fun race. I haven’t been riding much lately since I’ve been injured and just took a vacation, but I’ll be out cruising either way and you should be too!

  • Red Hook Crit This Weekend

    red hook crit

Couldn’t be more excited for this weekend. Not only has work been absolutely insane lately, but it’s also been a few months since I’ve been to the city and I’ve been getting that itch. Later today, Hunt and I are cruising down to kick it with Josh and watch Red Hook Crit tomorrow. Who else is gonna be there? So far, I’ve seen only one racer from Burlington, VT on the lineup, so Dan Smith, make us proud! If you’d like to kick it (or just want some stickers), hit me up on Twitter at @CultureCycles or @klei_ber.

    Stoked would be an understatement.

  • Monster Mash 3 – Burlington, Vermont

    Monster mash 3 burlington vermont

It’s that time of year again folks, the autumn is upon us and we’re proud to be throwing the third-annual Monster Mash alleycat-style race here in Burlington, Vermont. If you’ve been out to the past two races, you know you’re in for a damn good time while ripping through Burlington’s streets, shortcuts and campus pathways. Think you’ve got this race figured out after the last two? Think again. We’ve well-versed in trickery and to say we’ve got some curve-balls coming would be an understatement.

Registration for the race will be held on October 27th, starting at Metalworks Vermont at 6 PM with the race going off around 7. Make sure you bring a helmet, set front and rear lights, bag, and a good attitude. Oh yeah, you’d better wear a costume too. This year we have support from The Old Spokes Home, Hold Fast, Bailey Works, Death Spray Custom, Outlier, Gary Rothera Cycling Caps, Catalyst Design, Brand New Clothing, Sticky Brand, Wildlife, and Culture Cycles.

See what the past two Monster Mash’s were like here. *Also, if you’re not into racing but would like to help out we’re in need of some volunteers. We pay in beer, so email us at if you’re down to help!

    RSVP via Facebook!

  • Angel Race NYC 1999

I saw this video floating around Facebook yesterday and couldn’t pass up sharing it. Here’s Pete Sutherland’s short on NYC messenger racing in the 90s, particularly the Angel Race.

    This is a definite must-watch.
