Grant Petersen: Buck The Race!

stevie-gee-buck-the-race-grant-peterson

Huck Magazine has a great interview with Grant Petersen up right now that I’d highly suggest checking out. If you’re not familiar with Grant, he’s the founder of Rivendell and cut his teeth as the marketing director for Bridgestone throughout the 80s and 90s. Grant talks about making the bicycle accessible and fun for everyone; it’s not all about racing and lycra in his eyes. And while I’ll normally ‘kit up’ for most rides, I fully support his stance here. Get on a bike, pedal, and have fun! Don’t miss the interview!

Eric Corriel’s Red Hook Crit Art Installation

If you were at the Red Hook Crit last year, you’ll remember Eric Corriel‘s projected animation on a warehouse wall. This year he expanded upon the concept by projecting an his art on moving subjects as opposed to a static canvas; combining the rider’s movements and abstract elements to make a very unique and engaging installation. See how it all came together above and be sure to check out more of Eric’s work while you’re at it.

I always appreciate good art, especially when it’s cycling related. I spent some time browsing through Stefan Bumbeck’s collection of paintings, and really liked the Coppi and Bottechia pieces. If you like what you see, head over to Stefan’s Flickr or learn more about the artist in an interview done by Encyclista.

Fun fact: Stefan is a Vermonter.

Eric Baar of Ground Up Hand Pinstriping

SONY DSC

If you saw my first post on Ground Up, you’ll remember I mentioned Eric Baar doing some pinstriping. Well, I happened to stop by his booth again on the second day, right before he started performing his hot rod inspired work on a couple other bikes. One of those bikes happened to be Lunchbox by Peacock Groove. Check out the photos below.

The Death Spray Custom Formula: Black

Yet another video in the Death Spray Custom formula series. My stance on black is exactly the same:
“Black: jet black, pitch black, coal black, black magic, black arts; before there was life, there was black. The color that says everything, yet says nothing. When all black cannot be used, use white.”

The Death Spray Custom Formula: Safe House & Patience

I love this. I mean pretty much everything that comes outta DSC I’m backing, and this formula is applicable to more than just painting & creating.

“Safe house: a safe house is a space that’s in a secret location, used by spies or criminals in hiding. Before you start creating, find your safe house.”

“Patience: If there’s one thing to avoid in any working practice, it’s the shortcut. They do nothing but get you to your next problem quicker. Take your time and enjoy the communion between you and your work.”

See how this formula is put into practice at Death Spray Custom.

SRAM’s pArt Project

sram part project (2)

sram part project (3)

Back on November 29th SRAM hosted the SRAM pArt project – an art show at the Cedar Lake Theatre in NYC in order to raise money for World Bicycle Relief. About 90 of these beautifully-constructed sculptures featuring SRAM parts were all donated by various artists for auction. I personally love the fish piece – see a few more below.
