Cycles d’Autremont: Freshly Painted

Hubert just got a couple frames back from paint down at Circle A including a lugged ‘cross frame and a beautifully brazed blurple ridgid mtb frame. I’m really loving the looks of these! And man, seeing the segmented fork reminds me that I gotta make some headway on my latest project: a 1991 Fat City Monster Fat that I picked up at a recent swap here for a killer deal. All I need is a segmented d’Autremont fork, a King 2NUT headset, and a few other choice US-made bits to finish her off. On that note, does anyone want to buy a fat bike?

Gaulzetti Cabròn Cyclocross

Gaulzetti Cabròn

One booth at NAHBS I meant to spend more time at was Gaulzetti. Known for their fast road bikes and loud colors, the crew recently debuted their first cyclocross race bike known as the Cabròn at the 2013 NAHBS. Don’t get me wrong – they’ve been producing ‘cross bikes for a few years, though, this year they’re turning up the heat.

The Cabròn, unlike many other ‘cross bikes, has almost identical geometry to a road race bike. The front triangle is identical to the Corsa and the only difference in the rear is the bent stays to accommodate mud. Be sure to read all the details in the press release below and check out a few more photos while you’re at it.

Cycles d’Autremont – Hand Built Bicycles in Burlington, VT

cycles d'autremont

My buddy Hubert sent me an email earlier with the subject: “It’s live”. Without even having to open up body, I knew he was referring to his website. Hubert d’Autremont is a frame builder based here in Burlington, VT and a former co-worker of mine when we were both wrenching at the Old Spokes Home. Even with little to no internet presence previously, Hubert’s kept himself very busy building bicycles for a long list of clients. There’s a reason he’s been so busy too: his work is immaculate! The cycling world is very small and very well connected, so if you’re doing something rad it’s only a matter of time before the word gets around. Here’s to staying busy – cheers Hubert!

NAHBS 2013: Winter Bicycles Track Bike

SONY DSC

Yup, more from NAHBS. I’ll probably have one or two more posts from the show, including some random captures – so stay tuned. But in the meantime, Eric Estlund of Winter Bicycles had quite the track bike on display at his booth. Probably my favorite at the show, I really liked the fork crown and paint.

NAHBS 2013: 38 Frameworks Hogback Fat Bike

SONY DSC

Fat bikes were out in full force this year at NAHBS. With so many variations, it was hard to take in all at once. Denver’s own 38 Frameworks had quite the impressive carbon fat bike on display called the Hogback. This USA made, aerospace grade carbon frame is built around 170mm rear spacing (like most of the newer fatties these days) and can run 4.7″ tires with no problem. The frame alone weighs only 3.5 pounds too (medium). As always, more photos below.

Bicycling Magazine Profiles Bilenky Cycle Works

Stephen Bilenky has been in the framebuilding game longer than I’ve been alive. With a solid 30 years under his belt as a builder, it’s great to get an inside look at what his workspace is like, how his business has grown and to see how many things remain the same after so many years (his beard being one of them). Unfortunately, I didn’t get to shoot any of his bikes at NAHBS this past weekend, though it was great to see his whole crew of 7 rockin’ the denim cutoff vests.
