  • Steak Frites – Vermont to Shanghai

The good homie, Jack Moore, has been throwing art shows back in Vermont for a while now under the moniker Steak Frites. He used to live out here in Shanghai a couple years back and has been back visiting us for the last month or so. The dude’s been getting busy while out here, doing board graphics, displaying paintings at Push Fest and surfing couches like the seasoned pro he is.

This Friday at FLY Streetwear, we have a Steak Frites pop-up event with work from 50, Bilal, Jack Moore, JMART, Ryan Nimmo and Sally Zou. I’ll be premiering my Official Tissue year-end remix video as well. The video will be a bunch of footage you’ve already seen, re-chopped & re-screwed, plus some new unseen clips and b-sides.

KRZA will be there playing music while you responsibly sip free beers from Vedett.

It’s all going down this Friday, December 16th at FLY Streetwear – 704 Changle Lu, near Fumin Lu 长乐路704号, 近富民路.

Big shoutout to FLY, Converse and Vedett for the support.

  • Skateboarding in Rural South Africa

I’ve said it so many times but skateboarding has been one of the most important things to me since I first stepped on a board. I’m at the point in my life where I’ve skated for more than half my life, and in that time the simple act has helped me make lifelong connections and brought me all over the world. I mean, the main reason I’m currently living in Shanghai is all thanks to skateboarding. I came here originally to help open an indoor skatepark in Shanghai and stuck around because of the people and relationships I’ve formed; again, all thanks to skateboarding (and cycling).

National Geographic, along with Jess Colquhoun, put together this beautiful piece on the Indigo Skate Camp and its meaning to the Zulu Villagers of South Africa. You’ll see how the simple act is helping the youth learn and grow through the activity of skating. It follows them to their first contest, where the most important thing is to have fun and enjoy the session.

    This is a must watch.

Last week, my buddy Theo Paul Santana and I went out with our young buddy, Xiao Hu, to film a couple lines and shoot some photos. With Xiao Hu being a young Chinese metal-head, we figured we’d have some fun with these clips and asked him to get all metal and corpse paint his face. He was down and here’s what we came up with. More photos below from Theo.

  • H.A.G.S. – Have A Good Summer, A Short Skateboarding Video via Shanghai

Piggybacking on the Nuge bombing Baxter street, I figured I’d share a short skateboarding video that I just finished filming out here in Shanghai. The video, titled H.A.G.S., features a bunch of my buddies out here and was filmed over the last 5 months or so.

Skaters featured: Edward Chang, Edan Qian, Brian Kleiber, Justen Snyder, Per Asplund, Alex Greenberg, Johnny Tang, Wang Di, Richard Specht, Mikey Cheah, Juhani Salo, Oscar Swales, Xu Zhao.

My homie Jack Moore was kind enough to supply me with the illustrations for this video. Go grab yourself a tee shirt and some stickers from him:
