  • Skateboarding in Rural South Africa

I’ve said it so many times but skateboarding has been one of the most important things to me since I first stepped on a board. I’m at the point in my life where I’ve skated for more than half my life, and in that time the simple act has helped me make lifelong connections and brought me all over the world. I mean, the main reason I’m currently living in Shanghai is all thanks to skateboarding. I came here originally to help open an indoor skatepark in Shanghai and stuck around because of the people and relationships I’ve formed; again, all thanks to skateboarding (and cycling).

National Geographic, along with Jess Colquhoun, put together this beautiful piece on the Indigo Skate Camp and its meaning to the Zulu Villagers of South Africa. You’ll see how the simple act is helping the youth learn and grow through the activity of skating. It follows them to their first contest, where the most important thing is to have fun and enjoy the session.

    This is a must watch.

  • XIAO HU

Last week, my buddy Theo Paul Santana and I went out with our young buddy, Xiao Hu, to film a couple lines and shoot some photos. With Xiao Hu being a young Chinese metal-head, we figured we’d have some fun with these clips and asked him to get all metal and corpse paint his face. He was down and here’s what we came up with. More photos below from Theo.

    Enjoy.

  • H.A.G.S. – Have A Good Summer, A Short Skateboarding Video via Shanghai

Piggybacking on the Nuge bombing Baxter street, I figured I’d share a short skateboarding video that I just finished filming out here in Shanghai. The video, titled H.A.G.S., features a bunch of my buddies out here and was filmed over the last 5 months or so.

Skaters featured: Edward Chang, Edan Qian, Brian Kleiber, Justen Snyder, Per Asplund, Alex Greenberg, Johnny Tang, Wang Di, Richard Specht, Mikey Cheah, Juhani Salo, Oscar Swales, Xu Zhao.

My homie Jack Moore was kind enough to supply me with the illustrations for this video. Go grab yourself a tee shirt and some stickers from him: jmosnakes.bigcartel.com/

  • NUGE Bombing Baxter Street

It’s been a minute since I posted anything skateboarding-related; this is just too good not to pass along. Here’s NUGE ripping down Baxter Street in LA, the 5th steepest street in America with a 32% grade! Now I’ve bombed hills on both my skateboard and bike in SF, but this is on a whole ‘nother level.
