Ahearne Rohloff Commuter Bicycle

ahearne commuter bike

I’ve always enjoyed the work of Joseph Ahearne, especially when I see bicycles like this one. This commuter bike is dressed to the nines and capable of crushing your daily commute, and then some.

Built using stainless steel lugs, a stainless split plate fork crown, and a bi-laminate stem lug, this bike’s got beauty for days. It’s also ready for anything. A Rohloff will help you ascend even the largest hill in town while carrying a load up front on the chrome porteur rack. Also, check out the custom etched chain guard and striped fenders…I told you this bike’s got style. More photos here.

Ahearne Cycles Stainless Road Bike

stainless steel road bike by ahearne cycles (11)

This beautiful stainless steel road bike by Ahearne Cycles belongs to a very lucky man named Emre. The geometry is slightly more relaxed than a traditional race bike and outfitted for longer rides with a custom rear rack and fenders. The rear rack is one of my many favorite details of this bike, it will also soon be hanging some custom panniers by Philosophy Bags. Another neat detail is the Pacenti Artisan lug set Joseph used for the build. These lugs are no longer being produced so he’s been holding out for the perfect bike to use them on, and what a beauty they’ve helped construct. I can only imagine how long this thing took to polish…

More shots below as always. See more bicycles from Ahearne here.

Ahearne Cycles 26″ Touring Bike

ahearne cycles 26 inch touring bike (11)

Thing Ahearne 26″ Touring Bike is really getting me excited to get some proper racks & fenders for my own touring rig. This Ahearne is gorgeous; and features a fillet brazed frame and superb components (and is currently for sale). The custom low rider racks are just as impressive and built to fit the front-roller Ortlieb panniers.

Ahearne Fat Bike Cruising

ahearne cycles

Joseph Ahearne of Ahearne Cycles built this amazing fat bike for the 2012 NAHBS and he recently took it on a ride down the Oregon coast. I gotta agree with him too, fat bikes scream versatility. What other bike is as capable of trekking such deep sand or snow? And loaded for that matter. Fat bikes are made to take you where other bikes simply cannot.

Check out some more shots from his maiden voyage on the Ahearne Fat Bike on Joseph’s blog here.

Ahearne Cycles Custom Fat Bike

photos: Dirt Rag Magazine

This year’s 2012 NAHBS brought a record number of builders and of course, countless stunning bicycles of both form and function. One bike that caught my eye early on with a preview was builder Joseph Ahearne’s custom Fat Bike, fully equipped for the long haul with two custom-made Ahearne flasks. Those specially-fabricated fenders are amazing too…that’s accessory the fat bike category really lacking (cough cough Hunt and Dan).

Make sure to get a better look at this rig below and see some other great work from Ahearne Cycles here.

Ahearne Cycles: A typical afternoon

A typical afternoon in the shop with Mitch. from Joseph Ahearne on Vimeo.

Here’s a great time-lapse of a typical afternoon at Ahearne Cycles. Here’s Joseph’s description:

“This is what a very typical day in the shop looks like for Mitch of MAP Bicycles and myself. He is working on some front racks, and I’m working on a fork and racks. It’s really good to be able to talk through ideas with someone else, and I think we do a pretty good job of helping each other figure things out. We both have our stylistic differences, obviously, but there are often several ways to approach a problem, and to get insight into it, I think, makes each of us a little bit better at what we do. I’ve come to value that shared insight.” -Joseph Ahearne

Enjoy,

Ahearne Cycles: Bill Klinger Touring Bike

Ahearne Cycles

Gorgeous light touring or commuting bike from Ahearne Cycles, this features everything you could wish for and gives you the best of both worlds. Bill’s bike come equipped nice and upright; a position I’ve been fond of lately on my commuter/scorcher. I also love the double chain-stays, custom racks, and of course the amount of bottle cage/flask bosses. See some detail below and more at the Ahearne Flickr.

edit: mis-linked the feature image last night, sorry!

Beauties: Lee’s Stainless Ahearne

Since being back in the states, I figured I’d post one of my favorite Ahearne builds as a welcome back for Joseph: Lee R’s stainless road bike. The polished lugs and subtle gold pin-striping really speak to my taste in subtle details. More photos below and at the Ahearne Cycles Flickr.
