  • Bikepacking the Mongolian Steppe

This is a really good watch. Being in China and having a few friends who are of Mogolian decent, I’ve always been curious about what it would be like to ride around Inner Mongolia, especially on a bikepacking trip.

Funny thing is, as I was making my usual rounds online I came across this video from Jay Ritchey of Jay Bird Films titled “Bikepacking the Mongolian Steppe” and immediately decided to check it out.

If you’ve got the time, I suggest you do the same. Even if you’re busy with work, make sure to bookmark this one and give it a watch.

  • New Fourstar Clothing

First off, sorry things have been sorta dormant over here. As you may know, I work quite a bit and have been doing a bunch of freelancing and side gigs…so spare time has been sparse.

Anyway, I’ve been helping the homies out over at with a few things, one of which is wearing new gear and trying not to look super awkward. Here’s a couple shots of the new Fourstar Clothing line for this fall that we shot last week. I haven’t owned anything from Fourstar in ages, but damn…this stuff is very very nice.  If you want to see more or get your hands on some Fourstar gear in China, head on over to Skate Here.

  • BIG NEWS! Where have you been?

Oh man, have I got some news for y’all or what. I’m sure you’ve noticed the lack of activity here over the last couple weeks and for that, I’d like to apoligize. I promise I haven’t forgotten about you, it’s just I’ve been a little preoccupied trying to pack my life up.

If you’ve been following my updates on Facebook or if you know me personally, you’ve probably heard that I’ll be moving to Shanghai at the end of the month. Yeah, I know…it’s crazy. A month ago I would have never guessed that I’d be making such a move, however, I had a pretty amazing offer that I couldn’t pass up. Plus, I have a few friends living over there who absolutely love it and I’m at that point in my life where I need some change. Burlington, VT will always hold a special place in my heart; I mean I spent over 6 1/2 years here, so I’ll definitely be making trips back to visit. It was just time to move on, you know? Don’t worry though, the site isn’t going anywhere. I’m actually really excited to be able to shift my perspective and deliver some fresh content with Shanghai as a backdrop.

“So what’re you gonna be doing all the way over there?” “What about the pollution?” “Do you know any of the language?” “Aren’t you scared? “DUDE, THAT’S WILD!”…these are just a sample of the various reactions I’ve been getting.

I don’t want to go into too much detail right now, but essentially skateboarding is going to be a big part of my new job and I couldn’t be more ecstatic! I’ll elaborate more on the job once I arrive and settle in. Perhaps the best part of this move is freeing myself from a desk job, allowing for motivation levels to be at an all-time high for personal work such as Culture Cycles.

I’m also going to be starting another small site documenting skateboarding in Shanghai through photos, videos and stories – all original work of course. So stay tuned, I’ll definitely keep you all in the loop. And don’t worry – CC isn’t going anywhere! There’s just going to be a bit more content from overseas, which brings me to my next excitement about this move.

I can’t wait to explore the city on a bike! I’m not bringing any of my bikes over with me, but upon arrival I’m planning on building up a Factory 5 track frame, most likely the F550. Anyway, I don’t want to spend too much time ranting now but I just felt bad leaving you guys in the dark.

If you want stickers, 40 oz koozies or whatever, please hit me up on the birdline (culturecycles at gmail, @klei_ber, @Culturecycles or phone me if you got it) within the next week or so cause I’ll be closing the online store until I’m grounded and have a place to stay in Shanghai. Sheesh, still can’t believe this is happening. If you’ve ever been or have any suggestions for me I’d love to hear from you!

I’ve also got a best of 2013 post I’ve been working on as well as a video review of a new backpack I’ve been trying…so make sure to keep an eye out for those!
