Nisnas Industries Has Launched

imageimage2

Back in February I posted about the Kickstarter campaign for Nisnas Industries, a bag and fender outfit out of Wadi Nisnas, Haifa in Israel. Since then, they’ve successfully launched their project and have secured a space where they can educate the local community on their craft. Be sure to check out their site for more info and to see the goods.

Nisnas Industries: St. John Street Project

Yossi and Max of Nisnas Industries are on a mission to transform and further develop bicycle commuting and craftsmanship over in Haifa, Israel. They’re currently raising funds on Kickstarter in order to open their first production space, acting as both a place to produce their goods and double as a community workshop. Their goal is to employ local artists to create their wooden fenders, leather bags and high quality accessories. This space will also be open after hours to teach local youth. It’s great seeing bicycles connecting communities, inspiring the youth and helping employ artists. Head on over to Nisnas Industries to see a bunch of their goods and be sure to donate to their Kickstarter if you can!

Queen City Dry Goods: Shop Apron

Queen City Dry Goods: Shop Apron

queen city dry goods

Matt Renna has been creating works of art with leather and textiles for some time now under the name Queen City Dry Goods. Based here in Burlington, Vermont, Matt’s made anything from a custom cork iPad case to waxed leather porteur bag, and everything in between. Recently, I visited my buddies at the Old Spokes Home and Harris had a custom-made shop apron from Matt. Check it out!

See more from Queen City Dry Goods here and some beautiful photos of Matt’s space from Jessica Anderson on her site.

Hubert Horacio d’Autremont: Oregon Manifest

d'autremont cycles

Our friend Hubert has been building frames for six years now and his porteur  bike for the 2011 Oregon Manifest is one of my favorites to date! I found some photos of it on Bike Portland’s Flickr – see those out below. I had a chance to check out that custom porteur bag too and it’s stunning (and waxed). I can’t wait to see some more of his bags he’s been talking about developing- they’re just as impressive as his bikes.

Hubert d’Autremont has lived in many parts of the United States, including Montana, Colorado, Oregon, Arizona and now Vermont – and he has learned how much a landscape can shape an outlook on life.

Hubert built his first bike at 20; now at 26 he is just starting to build full-time. He strives to build for the Vermont rider and express in his work the needs of that climate.

His background is in architecture, although design of all kinds has been in his blood since he could hold a hammer. To Hubert, the beauty of design is that it isn’t art; it is both function and beauty in one. – Oregon Manifest
