The guys over at Factory Five are known for not only bringing you some killer track and fixed gear bikes in Shanghai but also for developing their own line high-quality components; their world-renowned Lattice Chainring or the innovative F5 Titan 31.8 Quill Stem are perfect examples.

So what’s the latest from Factory Five? Hubs and wheels of course, and they look damn good to boot.

The F5 Pista Hubs are forged from 7075 aluminum, CNC finished and fitted with sealed-cartridge bearings sitting on chromoly axles. The Sherrif Staresque cutout flange is designed to distribute stress while keeping the overall weight down to just 490 grams for the set (including bolts).

These hubs are available in 20h for the front and 24h for the rear with a flange diameter of 80mm and a BCD of 70.5. They’re up for sale no in black, silver and for a limited time, monster purple. Also, be sure to check out the F5 Pista Wheelset.

  • SRAM Omnium & Factory Five Lattice Chainring aka Omnilattice

    sram omnium factory five omnilattice

When you’re in the market for a new chainring, it’s no doubt that there are number of worthy contenders: Sugino; 44rn; TA; Blackspire; FSA; you get the idea. Being out here in Shanghai, I’m really fond of the Factory Five Lattice Chainring. The lattice ring is designed and produced by the friends over at Factory Five, a Shanghai-based bike shop specializing in custom track bikes and components.

Anyway, a couple months ago I replaced my entire drivetrain. I decided to throw on my second lattice ring and swap out my crankset for the SRAM Omniums. I also tossed on a gold Izumi chain for good measure. A few months of daily commuting and general riding later, I’m happy to report that all is well! The Omniums were noticeably (as expected) stiffer and the lattice chainring felt just as nice as my first one.

If you want to see a bunch of other track bikes sporting the Omnilattice setup, head on over to Instagram and browse the #omnilattice tag.

  • Factory Five XCR Custom Touring Bike

    F5_XCR_01web

Damn, would you look at this thing? Talk about a beautiful bicycle that’s as functional as it is eye-catching. This custom built touring bike was just finished for a F5 customer who plans to spend the next few years trekking the globe; and what a fine machine to do so on. The frame is a custom-built  Factory Five Columbus XCR stainless steel touring frame and topped with a lovely mix of brushed and clear-coat finish. As you’ll see in the photos below, each and every cable is internally routed, which could be an advantage or drawback…depending on your preferences.

As far as components go, it’s no holds barred; the bling level here is real. You’ve got a Dura Ace 9000 11 speed grouppo, H Plus Son Archetypes to a Supernova up front and Chris King in the rear, ENVE cockpit and saddle, Brooks C17 saddle, and an E3 Pro 2 headlamp & tail light. Oh, and don’t forget The Plug III.

This is easily one of the raddest touring bikes I’ve seen in a while. While the STI shifters and 11-speed drivetrain would make me nervous while touring, they don’t detract from drool factor…this thing is supreme! Check out a few more shots below.

  • Factory Five F5 Titan 31.8 Quill Stem

    XLARGE (1)

The F5 Titan 31.8 quill stem from Factory Five is something I’m sure so many people out there have been waiting ages for. Have you ever started to build up an old NJS bike or lugged road bike, only to realize those drop bars you have are 31.8 and not 25.4? Well shoot, now you gotta dig up some Nitto handlebars or something to fit the 1″ quill 25.4 clamp stem you’d otherwise inevitably be using. Bummer.

Or maybe you want to swap out the drops for some risers without having to pull off your bar tape and brake levers? This 31.8 1″ quill stem from Factory Five will save you from countless inconveniences.

They’re under $100 and currently available in silver at 90mm. Word is that they’ll be shipping on November 30th, so head on over to Factory Five if you’re in Shanghai or grab one online!

Check it out in greater detail below.
