Well well…look what we have here. The foreground of this photo shows Weigle’s file work on this Nervex Professional head lug with its original shape seen in the background. Who else can’t wait for NAHBS? I’ll be attending my first out in Denver in just a few weeks and cannot wait!

firefly bicycles

Since Culture Cycles is relatively young, I’ve just now started going back in time and exploring where we’ve been in our two short years of existence.

February 2011 reminds me of Firefly Bicycles…”First there was Fat Chance, who forever changed the way steel bicycles were built, then upon their move out of Boston to Glen’s Falls, NY a new brand was born: Independent Fabrications. If you’ve been following IF recently you may know that they have made big plans to move to New Hampshire to do bigger and better things.”  That made way Indy Fab originals, Tyler and Jamie, to begin working as Firefly.

Just one year later and look how many stunning pieces of art bicycle they’ve created…Here’s to one year down and another one easy, keep it up guys!

Independent Fabrication: Team Scheme

independent fabrications

The guys at Independent Fabrication had been testing out new team colors for the Grassroots Racers, and here’s the result. Love the classic green and yellow.

Dan’s d’Autremont

d'autremont
I spent the better part of yesterday working in my basement, doing some regular service to my commuter bike and while down there I caught a glimpse of Dan’s d’Autremont ‘cross bike, pokin’ its head (tube) out around the corner. Don’t you love the head badge? Here’s to a busy bee like Monday…

Inside: Independent Fabrication

Independent Fabrication from Logan Hodson on Vimeo.

A really nicely done video by Logan Hodson looking into the daily grind up at Independent Fabrications. Ever since they’d moved from Boston, I’d wanted to know what the new diggs looked like and this video confirms my predictions – they’re still on their game.

Sunrise Cycles: Curvy MTB

hand built mountain bike frame

Remember this frame from Sunrise Cycles that I posted a while back? Well it’s been given some color! The paint seems to further highlight all of the incredible details found on this hand built mountain bike frame – just have a look at the head tube area (not to mention the seat stays). See more photos from Sunrise Cycles here.

Retrotec: Triple Top Tube Mountain Bike

retrotec triple top tube mountain bike

Inglis and Retrotec are two hand built brands started out of Napa Valley, CA in 1993. Inglis has you covered for your road, mountain or cyclocross needs while Retrotec picks up with the funky stuff. There are 6 varieties of the Retrotec: The Classic, The Triple, The Twin, The Double, The Half and the Step Through. This burly singlespeed above is of the triple top tube design and is sporting an ideal built. I spy some White Industries and Thomson in there…

The color and detail on this frame by Feather Cycles is incredible. It was built as a wedding present and what better gift from a frame builder than a hand built mixte? The seafoam green, polished custom lugs and pink details have me drooling. You should see the rest of these photos!
