Arto Saari Shooting Photos of John Cardiel

john cardiel arto saari

Man oh man…this is what I’m talking about! Two of my favorite skateboarders come together here as Arto Saari shoots photos of John Cardiel. If you know anything about skateboarding, you’ll know that these two, especially Cardiel, are legends within the ‘”sport”; so seeing them involved with bicycles just gets really gets me more hyped. I remember one of my first pairs of skate shoes as a kid being a Vans Cardiels and since then I’ve been a huge fan.

Don’t miss this video below as well as a bonus shot of a frontside slash. Also, repeat after me: “All Hail Cardiel”. Thanks to The Footdown for the tip.

Brian Hart: Light Drawings

Brian Hart Light Drawing Bicycles

Brian Hart Light Drawing Bicycles

I used to enjoy playing with long exposures and light drawing when I first bought my DSLR but my experimenting was short-lived, I still love shooting long exposures at night though. This work by Brian Hart might have just inspired me to start playing with lasers again.

Chuck Squatrigilia at Wired.com wrote an awesome article/slideshow on SyCip Bikes of Sonoma County CA. His words are accompanied by photos captured by Jim Merithew. Head over here and get a better feel of what goes into a handbuilt bicycle.

Alex Harsley on the East Village

Alex Harsley – East Village photographer from James Matthews on Vimeo.

I saw this over at the Gage & Desoto blog and found it incredibly interesting. I look forward to meeting people like this, people who have such history, and such stories that you can’t help but listen.

Alex Harsley has been a photographer in New York city since before I was born, and through his photographs and stories we are given an interesting perspective on what it was like living in the city through all those years. He has done wonders for minority artists and creative minds alike. Give the video a watch, and if it’s up your alley you can watch another very interesting piece on Mr. Harsely here.
