  • Soma Saga: Bare

    soma saga touring bike

About a week and a half ago, I finished building up my Soma Saga touring bike and since then have been toolin’ around on it with an ear-to-ear smile. I’ve yet to secure a set of racks and fenders, but should have those sorted out by the end of the month. So far I’m very happy with the fit, ride and build…For those curious on the specs, check out the quick Instagram snap I took of the Saga last weekend, and visit Soma‘s site for the full breakdown on geometry. I cleaned it up the other day and decided to shoot some photos of it bare, before its first camping mission.

    More below.

  • Soma Sagas In Tibet

I recently sold my Soma Double Cross frame to help fund a 26″ touring bike and transfer the parts back onto my Bianchi San Lorenzo. I wanted something steel of course, and capable of carrying decent weight for both mini bike camping trips and longer tours in the future. Twenty six inch wheels were in my criteria as well – I’m looking to build something bomb-proof.

So, after some homework and comparing geometries, I’ve decided to pick up a Soma Saga frame/fork and am waiting on a few things to complete the build (hopefully in the next 2 weeks). In the mean time, have a look at a couple Sagas who happened to cross paths in China on the Sichuan-Tibet border.

  • Riding The Old Roads…

    Sorry, photos from my cell-y.

I decided to take a quick trip back to New Jersey on Wednesday to visit my folks, relax and do some riding on some of the beautiful roads we have around North-Central Jersey. I gotta say, the experience was quite nostalgic and most definitely therapeutic. I’m scheduled to start a new job on Monday and as you could imagine, I’ve had quite a bit running through my head the past week (not just anxiousness to start). So what better way to take your mind off things than by re-riding some of your favorite roads from the high school racing days? Nothing; and no prescription necessary.  I finally dialed-in the correct stack height on the Soma too, so that nub will be chopped as soon as I get back to my tools in VT.

  • Soma Double Cross Cyclocross Bike

    Soma Double Cross

A little while ago I posted some photos of my San Lorenzo before I stripped the parts and hung the frame (for now). Since then I’ve been riding my Soma Double Cross for a couple weeks through all sorts of different terrain that wouldn’t have been rideable on my Bianchi. Dirt roads, single track, and the smooth ride of steel have me hooked on this bike. Although, I’m still not sure the race bike is retired-it’s just a different beast I’ll put on ice for a bit.

I pretty much swapped all the parts from my road bike to the Soma and picked up a Chris King headset, TRP Eurox Canti’s, and some 28c Rubino Pro’s.

  • Soma Mini Velo Bicycle

Soma now has a compact mini-bike called the Mini Velo and it’s perfect for you city-dwellers who are tight on space. It’s even convenient for those with plenty of space taken up by bicycles; this one takes up about half the space of one! Read more and see it in action here.

  • Soma Deep Toe Clips

It get’s too damn cold here in Burlington to keep riding in those sneakers from the summer and fall. The folks at Soma solved this problem by making a XL wide/deep toe clip that can accommodate boots!
